The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has despatched extra troops to Poland and Lithuania as tensions develop on the Belarusian border.
“Poland and Lithuania, together with their Baltic neighbour Latvia, have been below important strain from migration originating from Belarus and facilitated by the Lukashenko regime for a variety of months,” the MoD mentioned.
The MoD introduced that 140 navy engineers are to be despatched to Poland and a unique crew of troopers have been despatched to Lithuania.
This newest deployment of British troops being despatched comes as there may be growing tensions with Russia as they’ve greater than 170,000 Russian troops and heavy artillery on the Ukrainian border.
Defence Secretary Ben Wallace mentioned, “Our dedication to European safety is unwavering and we are going to all the time supply assist to our allies.
“This non-combat assist will help Polish efforts to guard their border and go on important engineering experience.”
A reconnaissance crew of British troops who’re in Lithuania, will “set up if the UK can supply any experience or capabilities to assist counter present pressures,” the MoD added.
